Margot Fonteyn Affiliate Dance Program and Fine Arts

Audition entry only

Margot Fonteyn developed the Academy Method to teach the fundamental principles of movement as they relate to Classical Theatrical Dancing. The approach is a study of classical ballet technique as recipes of force, and therefore, the dancer trains a sense of how the body moves efficiently and effectively. A dancer in their career has the job of performing choreography with authenticity and integrity. Choreography of any kind is, by definition, unique, and each work has its own specific movement language. The Academy Method technique allows dancers to perform all styles with alacrity and present choreography artistically and with maximum impact on the public.

Transitional Training Program to Global ArtSphere Institute of Performing Arts (GAPA) dance programs for 2025.

The Transitional Training Program provides a bridge for aspiring dancers into full-time training. In the program, dancers take a timetable of open ballet, pointe/men’s, and repertoire classes throughout the week, designed on the Fonteyn Academy teaching method.

Regular masterclasses and workshops provide an integrated curriculum model for those interested in auditioning and transitioning into the (GAPA) Diploma/full-time dance program.

This transition program is for aspiring artists seeking to deepen their understanding and technical skills in Classical Ballet and Modern/Contemporary Dance.

This stage focuses on artistic expression and performance mastery, enabling participants to shine by offering part-time and full-time training, including performance and exchange opportunities. Here, students ages 12 - 17 train in the Fonteyn methodology, Jose Limón modern dance technique and extracurricular Fine Art subjects such as music/voice, ceramics, drawing, poetry, drama, and optional RAD dance examination classes.

VCE and distance learning are supported in these programs.

  • The transition program for 12—to 17-year-olds at the Global Artshpere Institute of Performing Arts (GAPA) includes a fine arts component, modelling with our Margot Fonteyn affiliate schools, which enriches the dancers' experience and fosters a well-rounded artistic education.

Critical Elements of the Transition Program with Fine Arts Integration:

Technical Training: Intensive training in classical ballet and contemporary dance, focusing on technique, strength, flexibility, and artistry.

Fine Arts Integration: Weekly classes or workshops in visual arts, music theory, or theatre arts, encouraging students to explore and connect different forms of artistic expression. This integration helps students develop a deeper understanding of the creative process and enhances their overall artistic sensibilities.

Performance Opportunities: Regular opportunities to perform in school showcases, competitions, and community events, incorporating elements of fine arts into dance performances, such as set design, costuming, or live music accompaniment.

Workshops and Masterclasses: Access to workshops and masterclasses with industry professionals in both dance and fine arts, offering insights into the broader arts world and exposure to various creative disciplines.

Individual Coaching: Personalised coaching to address individual needs, helping students improve their technique, artistic expression, and understanding of the interconnectedness of different art forms.

Academic Balance: A structured program that accommodates academic commitments, ensuring that students can pursue their education while developing their dance and fine arts skills.

Career Guidance: Information sessions and counselling on potential career paths in dance, fine arts, and interdisciplinary fields, including options for further training, auditions, and industry connections.

Physical and Mental Well-being: Emphasis on physical conditioning, injury prevention, mental well-being, and creative expression, preparing students for the demands of more advanced training and artistic development.

By incorporating fine arts into the transition program, GAPA aims to cultivate versatile and imaginative artists who are skilled dancers and well-rounded creatives with a broader understanding of the arts and leadership.
